<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid doubling an address in a VPN and lighten a burden on a manager. <P>SOLUTION: A connection apparatus connected to a main connection apparatus to form a virtual private network includes: an address acquiring means connected to the main connection apparatus for receiving an IP address of the connection apparatus and an IP address usable in an apparatus under control of the connection apparatus allotted from the main connection apparatus; and a means for allotting a new IP address to the apparatus under control from the usable IP address allotted from the main connection apparatus, without permitting the extension of the lease period of the IP address from the apparatus under control, if receiving a request to extend the lease period, when the IP address is already allotted to the apparatus under control of the connection apparatus.
