795,230. Filters. FILTERWERK MANN & HUMMEL GES. Dec. 31, 1956 [Dec. 30, 1955], No. 39588/56. Class 46. Unfiltered liquid entering at 4, Fig. 1, filters through a multiplate edge-filter element 9 and passes out therefrom through a disc 11 into an annular space 8 surrounding an annular star-shaped paper cartridge 20 through which it passes to the outlet 5. When the cover 2 of the filter is removed the edge filter 9, cleaning device 15 and disc 11 (connected to the cover 2 by distance pieces 10) are removed with it as a unit. A crank 14 is provided on the tie bar 13 of the edge-filter to rotate the plates against the cleaning device 15. When the cover is replaced the disc 11 becomes located in the upper end of a partitioning-tube 7. The paper cartridge 20 is sealed against a ring 22 either by a screwed ring 23 and sealing ring 24 (left-hand-side) or by a spring 25 and sealing ring 26 (right-hand-side of Fig. 1). In Fig. 2 an edge-filter 39 together with its enclosing tube 37 are secured to a cover 32 in which inlet 34 and outlet 35 are provided. Initially-filtered liquid passes from the edge-filter 39 by a passage 53 provided in the cover 32 to an annular space 38 and then through a star-shaped paper cartridge 45 to the outlet. The cartridge 45 is sealed from the space inside a second cover 33 (which is in communication with the inlet 34) either by a threaded ring 50 contacting the inside of the cover and having a sealing ring 51 in contact with the end disc 48 of the cartridge, or by a spring 54 bearing directly on the disc 48, which in this case has sealing rings 55 and 56.
