PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a toner having excellent fluidity, electrification stability and transfer performance over a long period of time by making a spacer particle hardly fall away from the toner and exhibiting a spacer effect sufficiently. SOLUTION: The method for producing the toner comprises: a covering step of covering the surface of a toner base particle, which includes a binder resin and a colorant, with a fine particle A of a resin having a carboxyl group and another fine particle B of another resin having a glycidyl group to produce a resin-covered toner particle; a spacer particle externally-adding step of embedding the spacer particle partially in the surface of the resin-covered toner particle to produce a spacer particle-embedded toner particle; and a heating step of heating the spacer particle-embedded toner particle to crosslink the carboxyl group with the glycidyl group, so that a toner particle having the spacer particle-fixed surface is produced.
