<p>Disclosed is a solid-state image pickup element, which is provided with an image pickup region wherein a plurality of pixels are arranged on a substrate (101). Each of the pixels is provided with: a photoelectric conversion region (102), which is provided on the surface portion of the substrate (101), and generates charges by photoelectric conversion; an optical waveguide (106), which is provided on the photoelectric conversion region (102), and guides inputted light to the photoelectric conversion region (102); and an interlayer insulating film (105), which is provided on the circumference of the optical waveguide (106) on the substrate (101). The optical waveguide (106) is provided with a first region (106a) having a refractive index higher than that of the interlayer insulating film (105). In at least each pixel positioned on the circumferential portion in the image pickup region, the optical waveguide (106) is also provided with a second region (106b), which is provided in the first region (106a), and which has a refractive index higher than that of the first region (106a).</p> |
