PURPOSE: A backlight assembly and liquid crystal display including the same are provided to induce the wedge effect by forming mold frame which comprises a backlight assembly, to improve brightness by closely attaching the light source and the light guiding plate, and to restrict the failure that a printed circuit film is excited or fallen off. CONSTITUTION: A backlight assembly includes as follows. A light source. A light guiding plate(110) diffuses the entered light emitted from a light source. A mold frame(130) includes a separate opening unit which accepts the light source and is located on one side of a center opening unit. The light source is a light emitting diode(160).
