PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized high pressure steam sterilizer provided with a pressure safety means for avoiding the discharge path closure of high temperature residual water and high temperature and high pressure steam from a sterilization chamber. SOLUTION: After the end of a sterilization process, the high temperature residual water inside the sterilization chamber 1 is discharged through a primary discharge path 3 to a primary discharge tank 4. Then, the high temperature and high pressure steam inside the sterilization chamber 1 is made to flow through the primary discharge path 3 to the primary discharge tank 4. Further, the steam is discharged through a secondary discharge path 5 to a secondary discharge tank 6 in a normal state wherein the secondary discharge path 5 is opened, and is discharged through a communicating path 7 to the bottom part of a water supply tank 2 in an emergency state wherein the secondary discharge path is closed.
