Disclosed is a compact, light-weight zoom lens system which can be used optimally in an interchangeable lens-type digital camera system and has excellent image resolution. The disclosed zoom lens system is arranged nearest to the object side, and has a first lens group with positive power, a focusing lens group which moves along the optical axis when focusing from an infinity focus state to a close-up focus state, an image blur correction sublens group comprising at least one lens element which moves in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis, and an aperture stop arranged nearer the image side than the focusing lens group and the image blur correction sublens group. The focusing lens group, the image blur correction sublens group and the aperture block are adjacent. Furthermore, condition 8: 0.7 w/fw w: back focus of the entire system at the wide angle end, fw: focal length of the entire system at the wide angle end).
