PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel sheet pile retaining wall which enables effective utilization of a back ground-side site and which can be economically designed even when earth pressure is increased, and a method for designing the same. SOLUTION: A stay steel sheet pile 4 is connected to a retaining wall body section 3 along a site boundary line K on a back ground side, so as to prevent other members from protruding to the back side in an intermediate position of the retaining wall body section 3. Thus, the site on the side of the back ground G2 is not pressed, and the back side site can be effectively utilized. In addition, since the increased earth pressure can be borne by a frictional resistance force between the stay steel sheet pile 4 and the back soil S, the size and plate thickness of the steel sheet pile 2 of the retaining wall body section 3 do not have to be increased.
