Spectacles (160) that automatically detects if a stereo image is presented to the viewer on a 2D/3D display (90), includes: two lenses (162,164) (each having an adjustable optical property), an image capture device (108) that capture a scene image (218) of the scene as seen by the viewer and a processor (12) that analyses said scene image (218) for determining if the scene image (218) contains an anaglyph image or not (alternatively: a polarized stereo image or not) and that controls the optical property of each lens (162,164) accordingly.
