Use of a wood extract of a plant Gleditsiafor preparing a cosmetic or pharmaceutical preparation for prevention, treatment or reduction of cellulite and/or for non-therapeutically inhibiting the differentiation of preadipocytes and/or lipogenesis in adipocytes, and/or reducing the amount of lipid contained in subcutaneous adipose tissue, is claimed. Independent claims are included for: (1) the extract, produced by a method comprising (a) providing a wood, preferably wood rasp, from plants of the genus Gleditsia, preferably the species Gleditsia triacanthos, (b) transferring the wood provided in step (a) with an extraction agent comprising water, methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, acetone, ethyl acetate and/or supercritical carbon dioxide, (c) up to 24 hours of extraction of the wood transferred in step (b) with the extraction agent for obtaining a wood extract, and (d) optionally partially or completely removing the extraction agent used in step (b), provided that the extract obtained by the extraction of the heartwood of Gleditsia japonicawith methanol or ethyl acetate is excluded; (2) a mixture comprising the wood extract of a plant of the genus Gleditsia, one or more 3C or 4C polyvalent alcohols, preferably 1,2-propanediol, 1,3-propanediol, 1,2-butanediol, 1,3-butanediol, 1,4-butanediol or glycerol, optionally water and/or ethanol; and (3) the cosmetic, dermatological or pharmaceutical preparation comprising the wood extract of a plant of the genus Gleditsia. ACTIVITY : Dermatological; Antiinflammatory. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor; Lipase inhibitor; Sirtuin 1 stimulator. The cyclooxygenase-2 inhibiting activity of the wood extract was tested using cyclooxygenase-inhibition screening assay. The result showed that heartwood extract of honey locust BIO781/2 exhibited an IC 5 0value of 0.0005%. |
