PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and method suppressing deterioration of image quality (density unevenness, occurrence of mist) due to crosstalk, regardless of a single pass system or a multipath (serial) system. SOLUTION: A nozzle position for discharging and the discharge timing are specified from first dot image data defining the dot arrangement of an image to be drawn and nozzle arrangement information, and a crosstalk evaluation value is calculated (S202) for evaluating the size of the crosstalk between the nozzles connected to the same flow path, on the basis of information of the specified information and information of the flow path communicating with the respective nozzles. The data of the specific pixel are replaced with the near pixel of the specific pixel, when the crosstalk evaluation value exceeds an allowable range, and second dot image data such that the crosstalk evaluation value settled in the allowable range can be obtained are generated (S208-S212), and droplet ejection is controlled on the basis of the second dot pixel data.
