PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an output result of high accuracy even when the frequency and the amplitude of an output signal are varied in accordance with features of media to be detected. SOLUTION: A thickness/material sensor samples a detection signal output from a self-excited oscillating circuit at a prescribed sampling interval to acquire sampling data sampled in a prescribed time period and reduces weighting on sampling data sampled in the vicinity of both ends of the prescribed time period, among the pieces of acquired sampling data, in comparison with weighting on the other sampling data and uses respective pieces of weighted sampling data to calculate the effective value of the detection signal in the prescribed time period.
