PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which can improve light extraction efficiency and can be manufactured without receiving a restriction of the material or film-forming condition of an electrode and a luminous layer or the like. SOLUTION: A nano particle arrangement layer 5 is arranged on the surface of a substrate 1. Then, a first electrode 2, an organic layer including a luminous layer 3, and a second electrode 4 are laminated in this order. By fine unevenness on the surface of the substrate 1 formed by the nano particle arrangement layer 5, fine unevenness can be formed on each surface of the first electrode 2, the luminous layer 3, and the second electrode 4, and a fine concavo-convex structure is formed in the interface of each layers to alleviate total reflection. Furthermore, since the nano particle arrangement layer 5 is formed of a silica nano particle 6, the material and film-forming condition of the electrode and the luminous layer or the like laminated on this do not receive restriction.
