PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chlorine dioxide gas generator capable of reducing uncomfortable odor generated from a chlorine dioxide gas generating agent without impairing the sterilization and deodorizing effects of the chlorine dioxide gas by the effect of an aromatic substance. SOLUTION: The chlorine dioxide gas generating agent and the aromatic substance are stored in a container with an opening, and the chlorine dioxide gas generating agent and the aromatic substance are separate from each other. An aromatic component of the aromatic substance reduces the uncomfortable odor of the gas generated from the chlorine dioxide gas generating agent, but does not reduce the concentration of the chlorine dioxide in the gas phase. The fragrance component of the aromatic substance is selected from at least one of groups of mint-flavored compositions, grapefruit-flavored compositions and lavender-flavored compositions.
