<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the contour of a predetermined object or pattern from an image with high accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: An image recognition device calculates the difference between the pixel value of a first pixel in an image and the pixel value of a second pixel that is in a position separated from the first pixel by the predetermined number of pixels. When the difference exceeds a predetermined value, the image recognition device calculates an edge decision threshold on the basis of the pixel value of the first pixel or a neighboring pixel thereof and the pixel value of the second pixel or a neighboring pixel thereof. Then, the image recognition device detectes an edge pixel corresponding to an edge that exists between the first and second pixels, by comparing the pixel values of each pixel sandwiched between the first and second pixels and the edge decision threshold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
