<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device, recognizing an image display even in the dim environment of the periphery of the liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: One pixel includes a pixel electrode having both the region where light entering through a liquid crystal layer is reflected and the transmission region, and an image is displayed both in the reflection mode in which external light is taken as an illuminating light source, and in a transmission mode using a backlight.
