PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, along with an image forming method, control program and recording medium, capable of improving image density detecting accuracy around a target image density of a toner patch image, and capable of obtaining a desired image density. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 includes: a developing device 2 forming a toner image on a photoreceptor drum 3; a photo-sensor 206 detecting the image density of the toner image; an operation unit 306 calculating a relational equation between the measurement detected by the photo sensor 206 and a development potential; a storage unit 302 storing the relational equation; and a control unit 301 setting up a development potential to obtain a target image density based on the image density of toner image patches. When high-density correction is performed, the control unit 301 forms a multiple number of toner patch images on the photoreceptor drum 3 based on the development potential obtained at the previous high-density correction, and sets a development potential for obtaining the target image density, based on the multiple image densities of the multiple toner image patches.
