PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for oxidizing an alcohol compound. SOLUTION: The method for oxidizing the alcohol is characterized by oxidizing with oxygen as an oxidizing agent in the presence of oxoammonium nitrate represented by formula (1), wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>are each independently H, alkyl, a halogen atom, or the like; R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>may be bound to each other to make -CH<SB>2</SB>CHR<SP>7</SP>CH<SB>2</SB>-; R<SP>6</SP>and R<SP>7</SP>may be bound to each other to make methylene; the hydrogen atoms of -CH<SB>2</SB>CHR<SP>7</SP>CH<SB>2</SB>- and methylene may be replaced by R<SP>5</SP>.
