The method involves detecting critical acceleration of a motor car, and correcting a trapping guard based on the acceleration. The trapping guard is temporarily controlled using signals in a period that is extended around a defined time span in relation to the occurrence of the acceleration, where the signals control change of a minimum trigger level of the trapping guard. The acceleration is checked that whether the car is delayed in a standstill condition, and the minimum trigger level is changed depending on the checking result. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a drive motor of a sliding roof in a motor car comprising a unit for detecting critical acceleration of the car.
