The method involves emitting an electromagnetic field (160) by an electromagnetic emitter (150) of a surgical navigation system. The electromagnetic field is measured using a detector (120) e.g. flat panel amorphous silicon X-ray, of a digital imaging system (100), where the detector reads an image of an object (140) and a field image. The field image from the detector is read based on the electromagnetic field. The field image read from the detector is processed by an image processing unit (130). A position of an element e.g. surgical tool, is determined based on the electromagnetic field. |
