PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the economical situation of a manufacturer engaging with a book, the cover of which is hard-covered, by making the shorter exchanging time of deforming tools possible in a device to deform the book cover (3), which is aligned so as to uniformly arrange to the spine of a book block and arranged while being horizontally lengthened, or on a certain occasion, a spine cover (2) inwardly equipped with a pulp paper-like spine core. SOLUTION: The device includes the deforming tool (4), which forms at least one round type or straight band on the spine cover (2) between cover surfaces (11 and 12) of the front and rear of the book cover (3) under the condition that the spine cover is carried between two fold forming rails (7 and 8), which are movable towards the inner surface of the spine cover (2) directed to the spine of the book block and opposingly arranged on its side.
