PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid damage on a semiconductor memory 11 or reduction in life thereof and further reduce a user's cost burden by reducing the load to be placed on the semiconductor memory 11 even when the repeating frequency of mode transition between a general mode and an energy-saving mode is increased in a main system 10. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 includes the main system 10 which controls image formation in a sub-system, and a power control unit 40 which controls power supply to the main system 10. The main system 10 includes the semiconductor memory 11 mounted on a substrate and a temperature sensor 12 for monitoring the temperature of the semiconductor memory 11. The power control unit 40 controls, when a transfer condition from the general mode to the energy-saving mode is satisfied, the time to turn OFF the power supply to the main system 10 based on temperature information for the semiconductor memory 11 obtained in the temperature sensor 12.
