PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous casting method and apparatus, wherein a cast slab having excellent inner quality with less center porosity is obtained by preventing segregation of impurity elements such as sulfur, phosphorus, and manganese existing at the center of the thickness of a cast slab. SOLUTION: The continuous casting method of steel is characterized in that, the continuous casting apparatus 1 incorporated with a plurality of rollers is used, and in a continuous casting method of the slab where the roller opening is gradually narrowed in the end period of solidification of a slab 7, and the slab 7 is drawn-out while subjected to light rolling reduction, preforming is carried out for reducing both ends in the width direction so that the thickness at both ends in the width direction becomes thinner than the center in the width direction of the slab 7, before the light rolling reduction of the slab 7.
