The device has a base body (1) movable relative to a mobile clamping jaw (4a) and anchored at the clamping jaw. A cylindrical block is firmly connected with the mobile clamping jaw for mobile anchorage and linearly guidable in the base body. Another clamping jaw (4b) is movable independent on the former clamping jaw. An anchor body is linearly guided into the base body, and a drive enables movement of the clamping jaws, where the jaws are independently operated. A moving path of the latter clamping jaw is arranged parallel to and apart from a path of the former clamping jaw. An independent claim is also included for a method for clamping a workpiece using a clamping device.
