PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polycarbonate diol excellent in mechanical performance, hydrolysis resistance and the like and excellent in industrial productivity. SOLUTION: The polycarbonate diol has a repeating unit represented by formula (1) (wherein Z<SP>1</SP>and Z<SP>2</SP>are each a 1C-10C straight chain or branched chain alkanediyl group) or formula (3) (wherein R<SP>3</SP>is a 2C-20C divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent or a 30C-50C alicyclic and/or aromatic divalent hydrocarbon group).
