PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire making initial wet gripping performances compatible with abrasion resistance (maintenance of the wet gripping performances), and to provide a pneumatic tire (particularly, a racing tire) using the rubber composition for the tire in each member (particularly, a tread) of the tire. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for the tire includes: silica; aluminum hydroxide; a silane coupling agent represented by formula (1) äwherein, R<SP>1</SP>represents group represented by -O-(R<SP>5</SP>-O)<SB>m</SB>-R<SP>6</SP>(where, m R<SP>5</SP>s may be the same or different, and each represent branched or non-branched 1-30C bivalent hydrocarbon; R<SP>6</SP>represents group represented by branched or non-branched 1-30C alkyl, branched or non-branched 2-30C alkenyl, 6-30C aryl or 7-30C aralkyl; and m represents an integer of 1-30); R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>may be the same or different, and each represent the same as R<SP>1</SP>, branched or non-branched 1-12C alkyl or group represented by -O-R<SP>7</SP>(where, R<SP>7</SP>represents hydrogen atom, branched or non-branched 1-30C alkyl, branched or non-branched 2-30C alkenyl, 6-30C aryl or 7-30C aralkyl); and R<SP>4</SP>represents branched or non-branched 1-30C alkylene}; and/or a silane coupling agent different therefrom, and represented by a specific formula.
