摘要 <p>Provided is a method for manufacturing a roller, which improves the efficiency of grinding performed on a roller end surface of a work piece for a tapered roller or a convex roller, and expands the range of work pieces that can be processed with sufficient precision. A work piece (1) is fixed by jaws (14) of a retractable mechanical chuck (13) provided in a headstock (11) of a five-axis control machining center. The apparent outer diameter of the work piece (1) is made larger by using a jig (15). A clamping surface (14a) of the jaws (14) and a receiving surface (15a) of the jig (15) are shaped using a machine. A cutting tool (16) is mounted on a main spindle (12) by an automatic tool changer. The work piece (1) is rotated about a C-axis to cut the machining-side edge section of the work piece (1) using the cutting tool (16) in such a way that the machining-side edge section of the work piece (1) has a shape close to a spherical surface (S) which is the target shape for grinding. A grindstone (17) is mounted on the main spindle (12) using the automatic tool changer. The position/orientation of the grindstone (17) with respect to the work piece (1) is set by means of five-axis control in terms of the relationship between a predetermined tilt angle (a) and a predetermined offset amount (e) etc. corresponding to the grinding process. The work piece (1) is grinded to have the spherical surface (S) by cutting with the grindstone (17) performed by means of Z-axial feeding.</p>
