PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting remaining battery level of an electronic key system that notifies a user of the remaining battery level of an electronic key with higher accuracy. SOLUTION: The method for detecting the remaining battery level of the electronic key, transmits an ID code preliminary stored by the power of a battery to a communication destination, in accordance with a first request signal received from the communication destination. The method includes the steps of: detecting a first battery voltage under a loaded condition on a cycle time period basis; storing the first battery voltage; detecting a second battery voltage under an unloaded condition on the cycle time period basis; storing the second battery voltage; generating voltage value information expressing the remaining battery level in multi-steps based on a comparison result of the first battery voltage with a first threshold and a comparison result of the second battery voltage with the first threshold and a second threshold that is different from the first threshold; and transmitting the voltage value information to the communication destination by the power made from a second request signal instead of that of the battery.
