PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid lens that can stably hold a peripheral position of an interface of liquids. SOLUTION: The liquid lens 100 contains an insulating first liquid 102 and a conductive second liquid 103, having non-miscibility and different refractive indexes, and the optical characteristics are varied by a change in the interface shape of the first and the second liquids, by applying a voltage to an electrode 107 provided in a container. In a surface contact with an edge of interface of the first and the second liquids, a first region 105 having an affinity for the first liquid and a second region 106 having an affinity which is different from that of the first liquid are formed on an insulating layer 104 positioned on the electrode, wherein when the interface shape is changed, utilizing an affinity force to hold the first liquid in the vicinity of the edge of the interface within the first region and a force to move the edge of the interface to the second region from the first region by electro-wetting, the edge of the interface is held at an edge of the first region.
