The disclosed fingerprint authentication device stores fingerprint data for a plurality of fingers. Also, the fingerprint authentication device stores a history of results of authentication processing executed using the fingerprint data. In addition, the fingerprint authentication device, on the basis of the history, determines a received number of fingers, which is the number of fingers for which fingerprint data is to be received at authentication processing time from a user, and a false acceptance rate. Furthermore, the fingerprint authentication device receives fingerprint data from fingers of the determined received number of fingers. Moreover, the fingerprint authentication device, for each of the received fingerprint data, verifies whether or not there is a match using the determined false acceptance rate. Additionally, the fingerprint authentication device authenticates the user on the basis of the verification results. |
