PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a band saw blade holding method and a band saw blade guide device which can hold a space between a fixed insert block and a movable insert block for holding and guiding a band saw blade to a proper space corresponding to the thickness of the band saw blade. SOLUTION: When a body part of the band saw blade 5 is held between the fixed insert block 9 and the movable insert block 15 provided in the band saw blade guide device, a return allowable means 33 included in an insert block moving means 21 for moving the movable insert block 15 to the fixed insert block 9 side is held in a returnable state and the movable insert block 15 is moved. After the band saw blade 5 is strongly held by the fixed insert block 9 and the movable insert block 15, an entire part of the insert block moving means 21 including the return allowable means 33 is fixed to be steady by a mechanical fixing means 45. Under the fixed state, the space between the fixed insert block 9 and the movable insert block 15 is held to the proper space corresponding to the thickness of the band saw blade 5 by the return allowable operation of the return allowable means 33.
