<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide core metal having high rigidity even when thinly formed, for firmly installing a weatherstrip in a flange part, without being easily deformed. <P>SOLUTION: This core metal is embedded in a cross-sectional substantially U-shaped installation base part 11 for constituting the weatherstrip 10 installed in the flange part F formed along a peripheral edge part or a door peripheral edge part of an opening part formed in a body of an automobile, and has the innermost wall part 3 and left and right sidewall parts 4 for connecting a large number of paper strip pieces 7 via a slit S similarly in a cross-sectional substantially U shape.
