<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcasting receiver and a display device which can prevent display of a meaningless area in a display screen for preventing useless scrolling. <P>SOLUTION: When scrolling is carried out, a scroll movement calculation part 1 calculates a scroll movement quantity, and based on the calculated data, a display area determination part 3 moves a window of the size displayable in the display screen from a virtual screen area of a virtual screen memory 2 and fetches data to transmit them to a display screen memory 5. A display area determination part 3 monitors data existing in the virtual screen area of the virtual screen memory 2, detects an element, a visible element and the like placed in the lowermost part of the virtual screen area to control scrolling.
