PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device in which the control amount is controlled under the prescribed conditions, capable of preventing the actual control amount from deviating off the conditions, and on the contrary, a control operation to restrain the control amount to the conditions from acting unnecessarily. SOLUTION: An optimizing controller formed in the control device includes N pieces of combustion model base controllers 7_i (i=1 to N). In the combustion model base controller 7_i, the predicted fuel injection amount Ginj_i and the predicted fuel injection timingθinj_i are corrected so that the predicted maximum intra-cylinder pressure value Pre_Pmax_i calculated with the model does not exceed the maximum intra-cylinder pressure target value Pmax_trgt when predicted fuel injection amount Ginj_i and the predicted fuel injection timingθinj_i are entered into the combustion model 711_i. On the basis of the predicted fuel injection amount Ginj_i and the predicted fuel injection timingθinj_i calculated, the fuel injection amount Ginj and the fuel injection timingθinj are decided.
