PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light deflector capable of performing light deflection for changing light traveling directions to both orthogonal polarization components of incident light by using one liquid crystal cell. SOLUTION: The light deflector includes a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules having positive dielectric anisotropy and showing a cholesteric blue phase in a voltage non-applied state, first and second transparent substrates disposed oppositely to each other and sandwiching the liquid crystal layer, first and second transparent electrodes formed at upper parts at the liquid crystal layer side of the first and second transparent substrates, respectively, and applying a voltage to the liquid crystal layer and a prism layer formed on an upper part on the liquid crystal layer side of one of the first and second transparent substrates.
