PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element having a base material and a protection member excellent in translucency, heat resistance, a passivation property (gas barrier property, oligomer delivery preventiveness, outgas reduction), water (moisture) absorption-proofness, chemical deterioration stability, dimensional state stability, surface anti-reflectiveness, an electric insulating property, ultraviolet deterioration resistance, and weatherability, and excellent in productivity to allow film formation under normal pressure or the like. SOLUTION: This light emitting element includes a light transmissive lower electrode formed on the resin base material, a light emitting layer, and an upper electrode, and the light emitting element includes a layer comprising at least silicon oxynitride film between the light emitting layer and the resin base material.
