PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination lamp detection method capable of obtaining an automatic cleaning system for an illumination lamp by accurately detecting the presence of each of a large number of illumination lamps based on a photographic image of the illumination lamps installed in a ceiling or the like of a station yard or the like. SOLUTION: The illumination lamp detection method includes: a step S11 of photographing the illumination lamps by a visible light camera 22 to obtain image data; a step S12 of setting an optional line 33 in a two-dimensional image area, taking out the image data related to a plurality of pixels on the line, detecting a pixel related to a luminance maximal value from the image data, and setting the pixel to an initial retrieval position; a step S13 of setting a retrieval range with the initial retrieval position as a basis, and detecting pixels of an illumination lamp candidate from the image data; and a step S14 of calculating pseudo-shape pixels, and comparing a pseudo-shape by the pseudo-shape pixels and the illumination candidate pixels to decide whether or not the pixels indicate the illumination lamp.
