<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric element and a vibration type actuator that relax stress concentration as compared with the conventional method when the piezoelectric element is pressed and attached to a support member, to provide a method of manufacturing the piezoelectric element, and to provide a method of bonding the piezoelectric element. <P>SOLUTION: The piezoelectric element includes: a body portion 4 having a piezoelectric layer 2 and a plurality of conductive layers 3 disposed on both surfaces of the piezoelectric layer; and a plurality of surface electrode layers 7 and 8 formed on the upper surface (first surface) 4b of the body portion 4 and electrically connected to the respective conductive layers.
