PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas adsorption amount sensor for precisely detecting the adsorption amount of the adsorption target gas adsorbed by a gas-adsorbing member. SOLUTION: The sensor section 21 of the gas adsorption amount sensor 14 has a sensor adsorption section that includes zeolite which is a material identical to that of the adsorption layer of a catalyst 12. Accordingly, the sensor adsorption section adsorbs ammonia being the adsorption target gas in the same way as the adsorption layer of the catalyst 12. That is, the adsorption characteristics of ammonia in the sensor adsorption section are substantially identical to the adsorption characteristics of ammonia in the adsorption layer of the catalyst 12. As a result, the adsorption amount of ammonia on the sensor adsorption section becomes substantially identical to that of the adsorption amount of ammonia of the catalyst 12 itself. According to this constitution, the adsorption amount of ammonia in the sensor adsorption layer can be regarded in the same light as with the adsorption amount of ammonia on the adsorption layer of the catalyst 12. hence, the adsorption amount of ammonia adsorbed by the adsorption layer of the catalyst 12 can be accurately detected using the gas adsorption amount sensor 14.
