An automatic iris regulating apparatus based on self-adapting regulation and a method thereof are provided. The automatic iris regulating apparatus includes an automatic iris lens (101) for picking up an image, an average brightness calculating unit (103) for calculating an average brightness of the image picked up by the automatic iris lens, an automatic iris controlling unit (104) for generating control signal, which controls the iris size, according to a difference between the average brightness calculated by the average brightness calculating unit and a target brightness, and an automatic iris motor (106) for controlling the iris size of the automatic iris lens according to the control signal output by the automatic iris controlling unit.
