Engine protection system comprises a holder 160 for a filler cap 21, accessible through an open engine maintenance panel such as a vehicle bonnet 110. Holder 160 has a cover 152 discrete from said maintenance panel. Cover 152 has at least two discrete operating positions, comprising a bonnet closing position 152B ( Fig. 4a ) and a filler cap holding position 152C ( Fig. 4b ). Bonnet 110 is prevented from closing while filler cap 21 is located in holder 160. The system may comprise a bonnet catch assembly and a dipstick holder . Sensor(s) may be provided to deliver remote warnings that the cap and/or dipstick are not in the engine. The engine may be prevented from starting until the cap and/or dipstick are replaced. Holder 160 may be deformable to minimize injuries to pedestrians. |
