[Also in Group XVIII] A flexible anode device for use in the cathodic protection of buried or submerged metal structures comprises an assembly of electrodes which are disposed at intervals along a continuous, insulated, metal-cored cable. Each electrode consists of two cast silicon parts 3, each part being cast on to a steel tube 5 which terminates on the assembly end in an internally threaded sleeve 6 and at the other end in a gland or stuffing-box 7. The parts are locked together against a steel ring 11 and hermetic seal 12 on an externally threaded inner sleeve 4. Locking screws 9 are located in a longitudinally split metal sleeve 10 which lies between the cable core, whose insulation 8 is locally removed, and the internal wall of the inner sleeve 4. The screws are tightened to establish electrical contact between the electrode and the bared core. A sealing compound 14 is injected through a plug 13 to fill the free space within the tubes 5, 6. |
