The assembly has a bumper skin support (21) arranged below a bumper skin so as to provide support to the bumper skin. A plastic shock absorber (15) is arranged below the bumper skin for dissipating energy by deformation of the shock absorber in case of shock. The shock absorber and the bumper skin support include nestable complementary reliefs i.e. studs (31) and orifices (33), for mounting the shock absorber on the support by engagement of the reliefs. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a motor vehicle including a rear panel extending transversely between rear side rails and a rear bumper assembly (2) a method for assembling a bumper assembly.
