Long tubes, rods and bars of glass, &c. 15 are transferred from a conveyer 6 to a conveyer 8 by a rotary elevator 4 consisting of two pairs of grooved discs 12, 16 which engage the central part of each tube and two pairs of plain discs 27 which support the ends of the tube. Each disc 12 is fast on a shaft 14 and its periphery is formed with grooves 11. Each disc 12 is associated with an identical disc 16 which rotates therewith and is angularly adjustable with respect thereto to adjust the width of the grooves to the diameter of the tube. Bolts 17, 18 fixed on the disc 16 extend through slots 19 in the disc 12. The bolt 17 is connected to the disc 12 by a tension spring 21 and the bolt 18 extends through the free end of an adjusting spindle 23 mounted on the disc 12. A pointer 24 carried by the bolt moves over a scale 25 mounted on the disc 16. Each pair of discs 27 is mounted rotatably on a fixed shaft 28 which is mounted in bearings 29, Fig. 4. The bearing 29 is movable along spindles 30, one of which is threaded, mounted in brackets 31. The threaded spindles 30 of each pair are connected by a chain 34 so that they are moved simultaneously to vary the depth of the grooves 11. A pointer 32 on the bearing indicates the amount of displacement of the shaft on a scale 33 mounted on the bracket.</p> |
