<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem, wherein the service life of a cleaning blade becomes short, since variation in the friction coefficient between the cleaning blade and an image carrier due to variation in the residual toner in the axial direction of the image carrier is generated, and the need for replacing the cleaning blade as a whole arises, when one portion of the cleaning blade is worn due to the occurrence of a deviation in the amount of wear in the cleaning blade, even if sufficient cleaning function is retained in other portions. <P>SOLUTION: By means of a cleaning device that includes a first cleaning blade 81 having length in the axial direction of the image carrier; a second cleaning blade 82, having a different length from the first cleaning blades in the axial direction of the image carrier; and a driving mechanism for selectively bringing the first or the second cleaning blades into pressure-contact with the image carrier, or separating the blades from the image carrier, only the cleaning blades corresponding to the toner remaining place can be brought into pressure-contact with the image carrier and deviation in wear, in the cleaning blade, is prevented. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
