The device (7) has a backup lath (8) attached at a plunger (6) of a press (1). A backup latch (9) is attached at a cabinet device (2) of the press. The backup lath and backup latch are attached together in a backup surface (10) such that vertical supporting of weight force of the plunger against the cabinet device is enabled at the backup surface. The backup surface is horizontally aligned at an angle of about 10 to 80 degree, and the backup latch is movable in a horizontal manner. A guide unit has a guide carriage, which is firmly connected with the backup latch. An independent claim is also included for a method for securing the press.
