PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a specification method of a dust kind of dust fall capable of specifying highly accurately the dust kind of the dust fall originated in an iron manufacturing plant by a blast furnace method easily, inexpensively and quickly. SOLUTION: This method includes: the first process for separating collected dust fall into magnetizable dust fall and non-magnetizable dust fall; the second process for imaging the magnetizable dust fall and the non-magnetizable dust fall respectively, to thereby generate a magnetizable dust fall image and a non-magnetizable dust fall image; the third process for classifying the collected dust fall into magnetizable dark-color particles, magnetizable bright-color particles, non-magnetizable dark-color particles and non-magnetizable bright-color particles corresponding to dust characteristics specified by combination of magnetizability and brightness, by utilizing a result acquired by classifying each magnetizable dust fall and each non-magnetizable dust fall into bright color particles and dark color particles by applying image processing to the magnetizable dust fall image and the non-magnetizable dust fall image respectively; and the fourth process for specifying the dust kind of the dust fall based on a classification result in the third process and a dust characteristic of a standard sample having a known dust kind.
