The machine (1) has a rotor with a shaft (2), and a converter (3) for rotational direction reversal of the rotor. A blocking device (4) i.e. freewheel, blocks the rotor opposite to the stator. The blocking device allows rotation of the rotor in a rotational direction and blocks the rotation of the rotor by the rotation direction reversal from the direction into another rotational direction. A blockade is lifted by a rotational torque reversal back into the former direction by applying a minimum rotational torque. The freewheel is formed as a pinch roll freewheel. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a diesel electrical propulsion system with a direct current generator-electrical machine (2) a method for operating a direct current generator-electrical machine.
