The method involves measuring voltage lying against a solar cell device, and measuring current (ipv) flowing in the device at preset time period. A derivation is determined based on the measured voltage and the measured current. A characteristic depending on derivation of current power of the device is determined based on the measured voltage, current and the derivation. A current maximum power point of the device is estimated based on the determined characteristic. The current and/or the voltage are adjusted to a value, which depends on the estimated point to optimize power of the device. An independent claim is also included for a device for optimizing power of a solar cell device.
