PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for charging interference wave therapeutic apparatuses or the like to charge a rechargeable battery with a simpler configuration while preventing Joule heat from being generated. SOLUTION: The charging device includes at least two charging paths including first and second charging paths to connect a rechargeable battery connected to the charging device to a constant-voltage power supply, and a path selecting means for selecting one of the charging paths. A resistance value larger than the resistance value in the second charging path is set on the first charging path. A first charging current supplied through the first charging path is made smaller than a second charging current supplied through the second charging path. Until the amount of electricity stored in the rechargeable battery reaches a first predetermined value, the rechargeable battery is charged with the first charging current through the first charging path. Until the amount of electricity stored in the rechargeable battery reaches a second predetermined value after it reaches the first predetermined value, the rechargeable battery is charged with the second charging current through the second charging path.
